Maybe it was the last storm, or the grocery receipt that made you look twice, or just the quiet math of wanting your household ready for a bad week. Whatever brought you: welcome. You’re my kind of people.
Here’s the problem this site exists to solve. Preparedness gear is sold with more hype and fake discounts than almost anything else online — inflated “was” prices, countdown timers that reset at midnight, “emergency” markups timed to the weather. Being ready shouldn’t mean being taken.
Who’s behind this? I’m Diane. I spent 30 years as a professional horticulturist specializing in plant propagation, the science of turning one plant into hundreds. “Making a lot out of a little” isn’t a slogan to me; it was my job description. I spent another decade helping small business owners launch on shoestring budgets and hit their goals without overspending, and years training franchise owners to keep the long game in view. (Three college degrees in horticulture, if you’re wondering — all three in the art of getting more from less.)
I’ll be honest about how I got here: I’ve been afraid of the dark my whole life, and I’ve always kept lights of every kind within reach. Add a few Oklahoma and Texas ice storms, and watching two tornadoes take houses down to their foundations, and preparedness stopped being theoretical.
The real turning point came when I stopped working full time. I needed every dollar to stretch. I never wanted to be a burden on anyone — and I’d seen enough to know that in a serious event, nobody is coming to the rescue but us. So my strategy became simple: buy what my family needs at today’s prices, before they climb out of reach, and build a household that takes care of itself.
That’s not theory. I’ve hunted deals for decades, prepped moderately for twenty years, and prepped seriously for the last three as times have changed. I garden, I fish, I camp, I cook from scratch, I dehydrate, and I freeze dry. Recently I found chicken on sale that was also marked down 50% — I bought 120 pounds and freeze dried all of it, saving about $200 against today’s prices. If we eat it five years from now, the savings will be bigger still. That’s the whole philosophy in one freezer run.
Every morning, I go through the overnight price drops — price-history charts, retailer deal pages, reader tips — and I throw out most of what I find: the fake sales, the inflated “discounts,” the junk. What survives gets posted here and lands in the daily email: the 5–10 deals actually worth your money, with the receipts to prove it.
How we make money Plainly: some links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy through one, the retailer pays us a small commission, it never changes your price. That’s the whole model. It’s also why I only post deals I’d act on myself: this only works long-term if you can trust the recommendations. When a brand gives our readers an exclusive discount code, we say so right on the deal.
